Community Engagement

Community engagement is central to the success of TBGEN Africa and its mission of capacity strengthening in genomic and bioinformatic research in participating countries.

We will be engaging the community to improve their understanding about the research in general and also clear out all perceived or real, raised or potential mistrust, misunderstanding or any circulating myth. We will clarify issues but will also learn about their understanding of the research by gathering information and ideas from the community elders or representatives on time. This will help us improve our study implementation procedures and align them with community interest and be responsive to their needs.

The engagement will aim to achieve the following:

  • Create opportunities for open and honest dialogue with members of the community and provide transparency for the research
  • Provide an opportunity to further develop strong community partnership and engagement of key stakeholders in genomic research
  • Generate sustainable interest and ownership in the research activities
